Still Life contact print

we was given a two pieces of jewellery and had to take pictures of the item indoor or outdoor locations, for the first piece of jewellery I chose to do it outdoor because of the natural lighting and how it would make the pink in the necklace sparkle. I chose to do it on a grey textured floor because of how it made the pink and the sliver of the necklace stand out.

I chose indoor for my second piece of jewellery because it worked well with false lighting for the lights, I placed it in the place where the light was shining the less on the first images because it made the necklace stand out against brown bannister. Then I chose to take pictures of it in front of the stain glass window because it added colour to the image and made you look around the whole image instead of just at the necklace and I took images of it at different angles to see which angle it looked best in. On third location I placed it on a window sill and took images of it in different angles placed down flat to see what it looked like when placed flat. I took several images of it flat and i think it looked the best from the right side looking at it properly.

Summer Project-

Commercial Fashion- Commercial fashion photography involves taking pictures for commercial use for example in adverts, merchandising and product placement. Commercial photography is also used in corporate brochures and leaflets, menus in cafes and restaurants, and commercial uses where photographs enhance a text. Fashion commercial is probably the best known type of commercial photography, as these types of photographs show up in advertisements as well as editorials in magazines, there are a range of styles and techniques in commercial fashion photography, from catalogue photographs which attempt to show the entire detail of clothing, to editorial shots which attempt to use the clothes in unusual and dynamic ways.

Studio fashion-Fashion photography is a genre of photography devoted to displaying clothing and other fashion items. Fashion photography is most often conducted for advertisements or fashion magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, or Elle. Over time, fashion photography has developed its own aesthetic in which the clothes and fashions are enhanced by the presence of exotic locations or accessories.

High fashion or rather ''haute couture'' in French, refers to high end clothes creations. They are very expensive (starts easily around 4 digits up to few hundred thousands) designs that are unique or made in very limited editions. Mostly, the sewing is done by hand (embroidery, beading, knitting...) and with great fabrics (silk, mink, taffeta, cashmere, lace.). You can look at them mostly in magazines such as Vogue or Elle. It's the opposite of ready to wear which is mainstream (features in catalogs) and you can find at any stores in the mall.

Location fashion- location fashion photography is where you take pictures in different locations like indoor, outdoor, in a studio, etc. sometimes you will decided where you want to take the image when you see what kind of model or product you are shooting and what he model will be wearing.

Diptych

For the first diptych I chose to do a gold watch and a black tile because of how the black and gold go well together.

For the second I chose to do a white shoe and a black tile with white in it because of how much the colours matched and because of the tile in the background of the white shoe image.

Task1a&b

Task 1a-

Irving Penn-

His work started appearing in vogue from 1940, most of his shorts were of his wife but he also worked with mannequins. He got a job on graduating in 1938 was art director of the Junior League magazine. He trained as an artist but had to return to New York because he realised he couldn’t be an artist and then got is first job as an assistant in vogue. He was hired to design the photo shoots but after the photographer refused to use his ideas he shot his own and got the cover of vogue that month, which started his fashion photography career. On his first cover for vogue he used colour in his work and his work looked like a painting and he didn’t use any models he just used still life then he started to work with models and mannequins. He photographed a lot of black and white images but he also did colour images as well but it seemed like he was more interested in black and white to make them stand out more.

Madame Peripetie-

Madame Peripetie is a Polish-German photographer and linguist.  She explores the boundaries between fashion, sculpture and the human body, experimenting with various fabrics and patterns; whilst infusing high-fashion elements with abstract and conceptual ideas, creating an eccentric escapade of colour and texture. Her work is really unusual and she likes to use bright colours in her work.
